Dead "Computor"

I enjoyed working with a machine this morning that has a dead hard drive. The note on my desk said "Computor Issue." Heh. Also in this woman’s office is a photo frame that says "Friends" on it, but it’s upside down. Heh. She backed up her accounting data fine, but the payroll information she backed up the other partition on the same drive. Heh. Also, bonus photos: coworker Kris looking at the mess I made and coworker Nick’s leg getting frozen by canned air.

Powderhorn Lake Park, Minneapolis, MN

One of the slowest fireworks shows I’ve been to but by far the best crowd. Thousands of people around the entire lake. Very urban feel and somewhat obnoxious. Everyone else lighting their own fireworks in the crowd. Rather dangerous. The group of people next to our group were dedicating every single firework to something random.

Drinking at Cliff’s

After the very interesting trip home with the Iraqi/Spanish taxi driver, the drinks were quite nice. Becca and I got my citronella candles and enjoyed the outdoors for a bit. I had another strong gin and orange juice drink that left me rather disabled.

Stella’s Fish Cafe & Prestige Oyster Bar, Minneapolis, MN

Up on the roof of Stella’s Fish Cafe & Prestige Oyster Bar in Uptown with neighbour Cliff and some of his friends. They stopped serving drinks at 1am so we have to find another bar.

Atari 800XL

In moving my grandparents’ stuff today, we had to make a decision on what to do with the old Atari 800XL.

This classic machine is what I first learned to write code on. I can’t say that I am any better today. Now it only gets used for playing games like Jumpman Junior, Star Raiders, Donkey Kong and Serpentine. It also worked with the Atari 1010 which is a glorified cassette tape player. Some applications shipped on cassette tape where in order to boot them, you had to put in the DOS 3 disk in the Atari 1050 5.25" disk drive, start the cassette tape at the beginning and type "CLOAD" to load the tape. When the "READY" prompt appeared, you then type "RUN" to run it. Never usually that simple in practice, though.

Anyway, my cousin Steve and I, who are the only two people that care about this anymore, decided I would take it home for a bit, sort out the stuff that works and doesn’t work, and then return the working applications, games and peripherals to my grandparents’ new house when they are more moved in.

I started to get things set up, and noticed that my aunt Laura packed an essential "Monitor" cable in a different box that ended up in a storage unit today. So now I have two boxes of this stuff and no way of testing anything.

Moving my Grandparents

My grandparents have been working on their new house in North Saint Paul for quite some time. They moved in around Christmas 2004 but still have not fully moved out of their old house in Forest Lake. My grandparents’ entire family is here except for my sister, who is also moving this weekend.

In the Pool with Jasper and Teresa

Took the day off of work today. Had a smoothie after 1pm and spent most of the afternoon in the pool with Jasper and Teresa.
