Rained Out

Went to a geocaching event at Lilydale Brickyard. I arrived late and the instructions I got were not clear as to where to go once I found the parking coordinates. It was located along the bottom of the bank of the Mississippi River in Saint Paul. I wondered around a bit and noticed a storm coming in. Another geocacher showed up more lost than I was and we went into his truck and watched the heavy storm roll in. We then watched the soaked geocachers roll in.

Bill, who had just left, sent me an instant message from his car saying "Get the Mini out - Water Bad - Road Flooded." He was right, and I quickly got out before it could get worse.

Layer Cake at the Riverview Theater

Dave Lee and I both live within walking distance of the Riverview Theater and decided to see the British film Layer Cake which was showing tonight. Show was $3. The film was interesting enough. The unnamed lead character played by Daniel Craig is a generally well mannered “Businessman,” aka drug dealer that gets involved with a problem that gets deeper and more complicated (and bloody) as it goes on. A constant guessing game of who will outsmart who. After a while it wasn’t hard to guess. With every win there was a loss. At the end, it wasn’t a guess as to what would happen anymore, it was more of a guess as to how it would be done. And it surprised me a bit. I said to myself, “oh.”

Huge Zucchini

Coworker Mindi is amazed with the size of this thing.

Gogol by Jason Beck aka Gonzales

Not uncommon for me to have my afterbar experience behind the piano. I have been working on Gonzales’ Gogol for a few days and my roommates have not complained yet. On his site you can download a copy of the music and hear his recording of the piece yourself. My interpretation does not sound as nice.

Lyon’s Pub, Minneapolis, MN

With Bill and Kim. We were going to go to the Rail Station Bar and Grill near the 38th Street stop on the Hiawatha Line, but I had a work emergency and had to run to the office. They decided to go to Lyon’s Pub downtown instead and I met them there. Good popcorn shrimp. Yum.

1993 Chevrolet Blazer

Nick let me drive his vehicle today. He’s considering selling it. I am not considering buying it. I tested it and it does indeed work. 107K miles. $6,000.

Power Outage

Go East is having a partial power outage likely due to the storms last night. I routed power to get our phone system back up. Although our connectivity to the internet and none of our servers went down, one of our routers that allows users outgoing access lost power so I had to plug that in elsewhere. I’m glad we got the replacement UPS units a few months ago.

Some lighting and cooling is down, so co-worker Nick made good use of an old G3 to prop the server room door open. It was getting quite warm in there.

Some workstations still do not have power, so I have to move people around for a bit until power is fully back up. My boss has his office lit with a single dim lamp.

Thankfully the toaster has power so I was able to toast Pop Tarts.
