O’Malley’s Lucky Irish Pub, Woodbury, MN

It’s amazing what they can get away with calling an "Irish Pub" these days. Out with Brian, Beth, Matt, Angie, Rob and Emily.

Update 26 Feb 06: After a few email exchanges with one of the two owners regarding this post, I was invited back after learning more about the history and ownership of this independently-owned pub. Quite honestly it was a lot better the second time around. Now, if I need a place to have a pint in Woodbury, O’Malley’s Lucky Irish Pub is what I’d choose. I’ll be back.

Just wondering what you meant by your comment about what people can get away with calling an Irish pub these days. I’ve been to O’malleys quite a few times and think it’s a great little pub.

It may well be a great little pub (which I would dispute), but it has nothing to do with being Irish. I mean c’mon, it’s in a suburban strip mall, first of all. Secondly, they can’t pour a proper Guinness. This is probably step number one if you want to call yourself an Irish Pub: know how to pour the drinks properly.

If you want to visit something that might be a bit closer to an Irish Pub, get out of the suburbs and visit a place like Kieran’s, The Local or Brit’s.

Lastly, if you ever end up visiting Ireland or Great Britian, you’ll come home and never call O’Malley’s and “Irish Pub.” It’s not even close.

I agree with Aaron also a very shitty place to work for the owner has no idea how people need to be treated

Hello, This is funny that that I found this when looking for our O’Malleys website. Let me say this, I am sorry for whomever wrote this very unhappy blog. I am sorry you had a bad experience at O’Malley’s. You must have had a very poor expereince But I will just share with you a bit of education on O’Malleys since you dont have it. O’Malleys was names after my Grandfather Tim O’Malley 100% Irish. It was after several years researching Irland’s pubs that O’Malleys was born.

I stopped in again with Bill and was a lot happier the second time around. The Guinness was poured just fine.

My apologies for some of above comments and I’ve crossed out what I take back.

    I’ll return to O’Malley’s soon.

My friend and I stopped by Saturday night. The place was packed. Our server took our drink order and gave us a menu. Our table was directly across from the servers’ computer. Our server had to pass us each time she put in an order yet she refused to take two seconds to check on us. It was ladies’ night with $1 drinks. We left her $2 and a penny. My friend owns a restaurant and I used to be a waitress so we always leave a big tip, but the lousy service we got was completely unacceptable.

Worst service ever. Probably why it was empty on a saturday night.

I have been to this Pub a few times with a friend who lives in Woodbury. While I love the place itself, I have to say you are right about the service. There is a server there we have had two out of the three times named Sarah and she is horrible. She is snotty, rude, and a really bad server. She seems to be fine if you are male (as she was hanging all over them) but good luck if you are not. We even asked for a different table the third time so we could leave her section. Then we had a very good server. We will probably go back, but not sit where she is serving. I hope the owners sit up and take note, since I know that a bad server will cost you clients 10 fold.
