I am only interested in talking with people that are actually willing to stand behind what they say though. Your false name and email address not only gives you no credibility but implies there’s likely a reason you can’t be trusted.

I was right there up front covering it, and the precipitating event was the small group that approached the riot cops with the shields. There was nothing thrown by the crowd until after the police opened fire. You note you weren’t even there, up front, yet you announce that you “know” exactly what happened. Well, I was there and nothing was thrown, just the group with hardened banners approaching the cops. The cops pushed back with chemical weapons and concussion grenades. Oh, and nothing explosive was thrown at the cops, not even fireworks. I did see a protester throw an already-exploded chemical weapon shell back at police, but no live ordinance of any kind. Your report here is dishonest, or based on speculation and innaccurate.

as it seems it is a right to protest, I believe it should be a privelege, and something that can be taken away. seeing that people do not know how to follow any sort of etiquette, or follow rules, or obey laws that cause others who do follow the rules, and use their rights to suffer (i.e. arrested, and injured, threatened, being made unable to do their journalism\reporting\photo sooting).
on the other hand I would laugh my ass off, and clap in approval if the unorderly like conduct of the riot was actually staged to demonstrate how unorderly, and chaotic this war in afghanistan and Iraq really is. I say this only because it sounds a lot like the chaotic war we are in now. I doubt it was that genius though, but understand the unorganized citizen who is enraged and has no real outlet to demonstrate that frustration properly. don’t believe the government would validate their fustration in this generation. Also it all sounds like it is inspired a lot by “Chicago 10″ the movie, and not the actual events of The Chicago 10. I don’t believe the riot held the same purpose as the purpose Chicago 10 had. It sounded more so inspired by “The Dark Knight” ’s joker. with all the molotov cocktails, and the damage and chaos, and even then that did not succeed in giving any Ode to the late Heath Ledger.

You call them ‘kids’ a couple of times. Were they really that young, or were they more like 20-somethings that maybe kinda seemed young. I’ve been around this type of crowd before and they certainly ‘feel’ young, but it’s not usually a lot of 16 yr olds or anything.

Good work controlling your emotions and the situation, everyone acts differntly in times of chaos and danger (your driver freezing.) It is a very difficult switch to flip from a civilized society to martial law.

Nice wrote up. Not surprised to hear that the group you witnessed was disorganized. I felt the same way with the main peace march group that started up at the Capitol.
