John’s Of Bleecker Pizza, originally uploaded by Aaron Landry.
Referred by many to be the best pizza in New York, John’s of Bleecker Street has been around since 1929 and is one of the few coal oven pizzerias in the city.
I’m not sure if it was the time of day or maybe the weather but I received some of the nicest service I’ve received in New York at John’s. I also dug the interior: quite welcoming, down to earth and there’s art on the walls and the tables are littered with graffiti. I was served a pint of Yuengling promptly and soon after my pizza right away.
First thing I noticed was the unique smell. I can’t place it exactly, but I want to say that the cheese was a bit sweeter or maybe there was a mix of parmesan. Either way the aroma was fantastic and it made me want to dig in right away. Certainly more cheese than sauce on this pie - enough for me to forget there was even sauce. The crust is fantastic: thin and cooked to a crisp.
I had to force myself to stop eating it so I could take the other half home which they promptly wrapped up for me. If I lived in Manhattan I’d be here frequently.
