Michelangelo’s Master Pizzas, Minneapolis, MN

After a suggestion from roommate Allen, Mindy and I sampled Michelangelo’s Master Pizzas near Xerxes and 50th. Walking in, while noticing that the door doesn’t shut on its own, my nose could tell we’re in for good pizza right away. The interior is rather laid back with paintings on the walls and a bunch of different types of restaurant furniture. There’s a chalkboard to scribble on and a couple was drawing with crayons at another table. There’s a few seats outside on the sidewalk of 50th Street where another couple dined.

We chose a hand tossed pepperoni and our service was friendly and prompt: we got it right away. Biting in, most notable to me was their good mix of mozzarella and cheddar cheeses with a dash of herbs on top. Unfortunately not common with neighborhood pizza parlors. Their sauce was a tiny bit sweet and blended well with the rest of the pizza. The crust wasn’t that thick but overall it looks and tastes like a thicker pizza. The crust is chewy with a crispy edge and with good flavor. Oh, there was pepperoni too but I almost forgot about it. No problem with me though.

I was happy they have 1919 Root Beer on tap. You can even order containers to get 1919 to go as well.

Overall a good neighborhood pizza. I’ll be back.

Another fave of ours, I love the atmosphere in there. I had never seen the herb thing like that before though.

Thanks for the tip. We have two little girls and like to have an idea if a place is a little family friendly before checking it out.
