Longfellow Power Outage

Longfellow Power Outage, originally uploaded by s4xton.

The current power outage in my neighborhood is from something that was sparking for a few minutes then exploded around 10:05am on 32nd St E and between 39th and 40th Aves S. It was presumably a transformer. My next door neighbor to the west of me heard it loudly and felt a shake from the explosion. Now there’s downed lines along the street. Many of my neighbors came out to find out what’s going on. I’m happy to have battery backup.

Right now, it seems unrelated to last night’s storm.

UPDATE 12:03: Power restored. I’m impressed.

UPDATE 19:00: An hour later, I lost cable for about eight hours. I also posted a storm thread on MNspeak with links to people that actually have to deal with real storm damage.

I was wondering about that. We didn’t lose power last night, but Carly said the power was out when she got home from running around 10am.

    re: cable

One of the reasons cited by the cable-tv crowd is that cable-tv does not go down. And yet if you count all the time my satellite dish has been “down” you would have to go back 3 years to add up to 8 hours of “downtime”. Usually during massive snow storms…
