Out of the three choices he boiled down to, this would have been my third choice. He wanted something that did email, light browsing and occasionally email and SMS well. His priority was for work. He does freelance and contract work for a few high-profile and sometimes needy clients that demand outside-of-business-hours attention. He didn't want "a brick" either. I sold him on the Sidekick 3 because in my strong opinion, for those specific needs, the Sidekick 3 is by far the best device. The needs he mentioned actually match mine. What started coming out later in our discussions is that application flexibility, Bluetooth accessibility and the feeling/concept of "device control" came into play. The Sidekick 3 lacks "options." He also stated the size and form of the Sidekick 3 wasn't something he wanted to lug around... but I can't imagine myself wearing a Blackberry on a belt clip nor a Treo in a pouch clipped to my belt. When he said he was probably going to get a Sidekick 3, I tried selling him on the Blackberry as I didn't want to be responsible for him buying a device he'd end up disliking (because he will likely be frustrated with any of the three for different reasons - the same way I would be). I even got my boss, who has a 8700g to get in touch with him again about his device. They talked previously but I wanted to make sure he got the Blackberry prod again. They ended up going out for drinks and that evening he was almost sold on the 8700g that night. He then talked to one of his business partners and he suggested the Treo. That next lunch we got together and went to the Verizon store, and surprisingly he was pretty much sold on it by the time we left. He made the purchase that evening. I think part of his decision was that his wife is also on Verizon. I'll likely post in a couple weeks or so when I see him next with his reactions to it. He got the Palm Treo 700p.
